Efficiency in Action

New York Energy $mart

The New York (NYSERDA) Energy $mart program began in 1998 to help residents, landlords, contractors and others reduce their energy usage and costs through energy efficiency solutions. The program offers eligible homeowners incentives or low-interest financing to make energy efficiency improvements more affordable. Also the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program works with contractors through the Building Performance Institute (BPI) to perform energy audits, including special subsidies for lower income residents of single family houses, renters and owners of buildings up to 4 units. The program has shown such success that in 2006, funding was expanded to $175 million annually through 2011.
