Spark Plugs are devices inserted into your car or any other motor vehicle and it initiates the ignition within the fuel-air mixture which in turn generates power for your engine to run.
To make it clearer, we explain the reason why one should install a spark plug in his or her vehicle. Spark plugs wear and tear due to various reasons. One needs a constant check on the as deteriorated spark plugs shall increase the consumption of fuel by the car and contrarily reduce the power output also. One certainly does not desire lowered gas mileage given the sky rocketing fuel prices.
So when does the reason arise that one needs to install a spark plug in his vehicle?
Such installation of spark plug is generally not done more than 2 times during the entire lifespan of the car until and unless one is looking at enhancing the spark plug for more power and output. It is noteworthy that one should always check with the car manual and the car servicing engineers to know about the intervals at which the spark plug should be ideally changed, given the car’s engineering. Ideally, it should be around 30k kilometers for any modern car but there may be variations.
The three basic things that one needs to do while installing a spark plug is
- 1. Make sure that the car is switched off
- 2. Remove the spark plug
- 3. Replace with the new one.
The equipment that will be required in the process include Box Spanner which can be commonly found and is of a very high tech specification.
How to go about the installation?
Switch off the car before proceeding. The bonnet needs to be opened in order to disconnect the cable that connects the spark plug with the connector to the engine. There may arise a few differences in this connection as different cars are different settings. For example a car might have the ignition copil right above the spark plug. In that case, one has to first disconnect the ignition coil before the connection with the engine.
The next step to go about is use the equipment specified, the box spanner, to take out the spark plug from the screwing. A scrutiny is required in the color of the part of the plug that goes within the cylinder. A gray or a light brownish color indicates that the engine is functioning perfectly. If the case is not so, then new plugs need to be installed as a very basic requirement. For this it is advisable that one takes the help of a highly trained technician.
In case one is doing it on his own, then the new spark plugs need to be installed being extremely careful of avoiding any cross threads, even mistakenly. The screw should neither be too loose nor too tight. Next, some cars would require the replacement of the ignition coil that was removed and cables should be reconnected and put back in place. One has to be very sure that he has done everything correct and then only can he shut the bonnet and be at peace.
