The Porsche Carrera GT (Project Code 980) was first manufactured in germany by Porsche. It is a mid-engine sports car.Carrera GT development could be traced from LMP198 and 911 GT1 racing cars. Both these designs ended in 1998 because of ACO and FIA rule changes. For the year 1999 Porsche planned a new Le Mans prototype. This car was initially used as a turbocharged flat- 6 but later it was redesigned and used in V10 engine. In 1992 Porsche secretly built the V10 unit form the footwork of Formula One team but latter dropped. This machine was resurrected for Porsche’s Le Mans model & increased the size to 5.7 ltrs. But unfortunately this project was cancelled after testing its first car for the first two days. In mid 1999 Porsche’s with the involvement from Audi and Volkswagen wished to build the SUV Cayenne. This led them to move from their engineering expertise of motorsports division.
Porsche Kept its car concept alive by using 5.5 Litre V10 engine in a Geneva Motor Show show in the year 2000. With the influx of revenue from Cayenne, Porsche was able to produce this Car. Its development started at Porsche’s new production facility in Leipzig. In 2004 the production of Carrera GTs started with shipping at a MSRP price of 440,000 USD dollars & dealers invoice price of 414,800 USD dollars (approx) along with a delivery charge of 5,000 USD dollars. The first sale was made in USA on 31st Jan 2004.
Porsche Carrera GT having an engine of 5.7 litre V10 produces 612 DIN and an horsepower of 450 kW. To accelerate from 0 – 100 in 62.1 mph it takes3.9 seconds and it has a max speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). It is very much similar as other Porsche cars like Porsche 911. The Porsche Carrera GT also includes a automated rear wing spoiler and deploys a speed of 110 km/hr (70 mph)
The interior of this car is fitted with soft leather. Navigation system and Bose audio system are optional. Like typical Porsche fashion, to the left side is the ignition of the steering wheel.
